Chess “Queen” Nayanikaa in National Top 10!

The 31st National Under-13 Girls Chess Championship-2017 was organized by the Jalandhar Chess Association (JCA)—affiliated to the Punjab State Chess Association (PSCA)—on behalf of the All India Chess Federation (AIFC). The contest was held in Jalandhar, Punjab, at the Cambridge International School for Girls, from 21st to 29th June 2017.

110 participants from various states across India contested for the championship that was conducted in 11 rounds. Nayanikaa M is a Std. VIII student of Kolaperumal Chetty Vaishnav Senior Secondary School, Arumbakkam, Chennai, who participated in this championship and secured the 10th position on the merit list for her performance assessed at the end of 11 rounds. She was awarded a cup, certificate and a cash price of Rs. 2600.

Nayanikaa’s earlier achievements:

  • Winner of the First Prize in the 2nd Genius Chess Kids TN State Level Children’s Chess Tournament–2017 held at Velammal Vidyalaya School at Mel Ayanambakkam, Chennai, in June 2017.
  • Winner of the Under-12 Girls category in the 13th Open State-Level Chess Tournament held at Bhavan’s Vidyashram, Kilpauk, Chennai, in August 2016, for which she was awarded a cup and a certificate by Grandmaster Aravindh Chidambaram.
  • Won the selection contest to represent Chennai District at the Tamil Nadu State Chess Championship in May 2016 at Tiruppur.
  • Winner of the Chennai District Under-13 Girls Chess Championship Tournament held at Adyar in February 2016. She was awarded a rolling trophy, a shield, and certificate. The same month, she won the Second Prize in Chennai West Sahodaya CBSE Cluster Interschool Chess Tournament held at Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Virugambakkam, Chennai.
  • Winner of the Under-12 Girls category of the Solar Memorial Chess Tournament held at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) School in K. K. Nagar, Chennai, in January 2016. She was awarded a trophy, a certificate, and an electric fan as prize.
  • Winner of the Under-12 Girls category in the M. A. Krishnaswamy (MAK) Memorial Inter School Chess Tournament held in August 2015, for which she received her award from Mr. V. Hariharan, Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association (TNSCA).
  • Winner of the Silver Medal in the Under-12 Girls category in the Inter-School Chess Tournament conducted at Kalaimagal Matriculation School, Chennai, in November 2014, for which she was awarded a trophy, certificate, pure silver medal, and hot pack Tiffin box.
