Pongal, the harvest festival of the Tamil People, was celebrated with great joy over three days. The students of L. M. Dadha Sr. Sec. School, Choolaimedu, Chennai, came dressed in beautiful, traditional attire. The school was decorated with colourful kolams that were eye-catching.

The spirit of Pongal was captured by making Pongal outdoors in a traditional earthen pot. The Pongal was cooked in a new pot at the auspicious time, followed by the pooja. When the pot bubbled over, students, teachers, non-teaching school staff, and parents chorused “Pongal-o-Pongal!”.

Staff and students performed “Gummiyattam”, which was very much enjoyed by the students. Children sung Pongal celebration songs. Competitions based on the traditional games “Uriyadithal”, “Kayir Izhuthal”, and “Thanner Izhuthal” were conducted. Pongal and sugarcane were offered to all the students.

The students loved every moment of the Pongal celebrations. The day was filled with fun and happiness, and the joyous occasion filled our days ahead with happiness.

The students and the staff thanked the Principal, Mrs. S. Shoba for the initiative and guidance.
