At the outset, I feel privileged to present the review of the book “How to win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie.

The book deals with interpersonal dynamics.  The author has explained everything in a lucid language and in a simple manner. The principles stated are petty and simple but often ignored. Each and every principle is given in the form of  a capsule so that it can be assimilated easily. The author has also explained each of the principle with a real life situation and practical life examples.

He has narrated many principles with anecdotes related to the life of renowned successful leaders of the world.  Though the information is basic, the examples and the messages given are profound. It has all good and vital points for any person to become a complete good human being. The very topic and foot note of each chapter gives precisely, the principle discussed in that chapter.  Thus it is easy for the readers to summarize and follow the principle.

It brings a change in the readers’ mindset,  that they come out with  new thoughts and vision to follow in  their life.  It is sure to transform a rigid, selfish person into a responsible social being.  The principles stated in the book can be followed at home, office and at any other public place.  The essence of leadership quality is stated in a simple manner.

It also brings about these qualities in the reader such as being honest, being a good listener, caring for others, respecting other’s opinion, appreciating other’s efforts and success honestly, encouraging and praising subordinates for their every good act, to sensitize a person on his wrong doing instead of hitting them directly, being humble enough to talk about our own mistakes before criticizing others and being friendly to everyone.

In all, it moulds the reader to a more calm, composed and a balanced person, brave enough to face the difficulties of life and become successful in their ambition easily. It is suitable for people of all walks of life.

Dale Carnegie’s writings have revolutionised modern thought about human relationships. Without doubt, he was such a great writer indeed, but isn’t it ironical to know of the widely held belief that this great man committed suicide? One has to concede that the cause of his rather premature demise remains a matter of conjecture.

Also read “How to do What you want to do” and “Public Speaking” and “Stop worrying and Start Living”. One can improve on oneself if they are scared on ‘public speaking’ , always worrying for petty things and finding it difficult to speak in front of public. Dale Carnegie is a great author. Another such great and influencing author is Robin Sharma and read his books also if time permits. Raghavendra Rao

  18. Vijayalakshmi says:

Interesting thing is that this book is only for 18 and above. That means all know well to win friends and influence people up to 18. It so happen that we do not want to do it for professional reason after 18. Isn’t it?
