A beautiful fiction about a very brilliant ambitious twelve year old boy, Akash, fighting his poverty to achieve a simple wish of getting into a good school to learn maths.

It was fascinating information that the author Monika Schroder is from Germany and now works in India has taken pains to learn the traditions and cultures of India , and the in depth explanation of India’s poverty affecting children’s education. And it is only her second novel!!

Akash is gifted with a mystic number sense and his love for maths drives him away from the family, bonded labour and from the drugs dealer. He has complete faith in Saraswathi, Goddess of Education to decide his fate. He explores many a ways to reach his goal. Finally the righteous deeds wins over the illegal ways.

Vedic maths is being talked about by a foreign author. How did we fail to  recognize this and incorporate the same in our school syllabus? The author has used to illustrate shortcuts in Vedic maths can be used to improve mental maths skills.

The book will be an inspiration to a lot of students. Simple language and a normal story told very interestingly and of course very motivating. Saraswati indeed did help Akash find the right path to reach his goal.

I am a banker by profession. I love to read and also do a lot of traveling with family and friends. In my leisure I play with my daughter, conduct group games for her friends like Pictionary, Quiz, UNO cards etc. and catch up with my friends through Face book. My daughter Madhuvanthi is a Brown belt in Karate and a good Carnatic singer. I take her out for various tournaments and competitions and she has won prizes in several of them.

There is always a bonded relationship between Indian & German people specially the sanscrit. Definitely, our traditional cultural secrets were taken away by then British raj times and changed the hands to various countries from Alexander invasion and Aurangazeb invasion. It is not only this Vedic Maths even yoga is better explained and taught with thorough dedication by them than our yoga teachers in India where I was astonished. Not that I am praising them , but the selfish motto of us not imparting effective training to our younger generation is a saddening effect. It is what we leave for the younger generation now is the effect on the future younger generation survival. It is high time that we impart our vedic science which was forgotten by many which required high concentration to impart knowledge to them.

Sounds Very inspiring and what better could have happen when a German author can write inspiring books the goddess Saraswathi way!

    Nice Review.

Many times we failed to understand our rich culture and tradition and Realize this only when some one from outside writes about it.

We need to start discovering about such things even before others make to understand.

Really, interesting to know that a German author is mentioning about our Goddess of Learning , SARASWATHI. Review is nice and has created an interest to buy this book.

It is always fascinating to hear from others of our strenghts. This has been the case with many of us. We fail to recognise our strengths at times & lament around the weakness.
India is a country with rich heritage & many of its cultural richness has not been properly advocated. The reasoning attitute of the younger generation should be properly fuelled to earn their respect for our culture.
