‘Raghuvamsa Sudhaambhuthichandra’ is a very famous krithi of Sri. Patnam Subramania Iyer in the Raga Kathanakuthuhalam.  Patnam Subramania Iyer invented this raga Kathanakuthuhalam.   The ascending is not straight.

Ascending: S R2 M1 D2 N3 G3 P S

Descending: S N3 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S

This krithi is very popular among instrumentalists.

Listen to the melody queen Smt M S Subbulakshmi. Pay attention to the brisk chittaswaram. What a chittaswaram!

The unknown fact is that the most famous chittaswaram is not composed by Sri. Patnam Subramania Iyer but Thiruvaiyaru Sri. Subramania Iyer, a contemporary of  Sri. Patnam.

Patnam Subramania Iyer invented this new raga Kadanakuthuhalam from Raga Kuthuhalam invented by his guru Maanambhuchavadi Venkatasubba Iyer, a sisya and cousin of Saint Thiyagaraja.

Kuthuhalam

Listen to the rare song ‘Aavaraku sathyamaithochu’ in raga Kuthuhalam composed by Maanambhuchavadi Venkatasubba Iyer.

The wonderful scale of Kadhanakuthuhalam is not yet explored in film music.
