As the name suggests, its Kautalya’s , Arthashatra that has been dissected to impress upon the modern day corporate.
There is no rocket science involved in the translation of the age old, tried and tested methods of making all groups in any deal come out successful and happy. One thing that really got me going was the fact that there were quotes used verbatim and how if it would affect the “king” since he was the ‘manager’ can be easily fitted into the present day scenario. There were so many instances that can easily be changed just by the one person who is the power to be, changed a little of his outlook, the work place would be so much healthier.
Chanakya talks about warfare and how to minimize the damage and loss which is inevitable in any war. He talks about how first the negotiations should be towards amicable resolution and only if all fails does one go for war. That too after one has taken into consideration all the losses that are likely to happen in terms of lives, materials, time and energy.
In some of the corporate, the management goes into discussion as if they were going for war with their own prejudices and biases. This does not help and they have like lost their war even before the battle began.
I feel everyone who has some say in anything at all should read this book. This book gives a fresh insight into age old traditional way of doing things and with aplomb. What makes it more interesting is the couplets he quotes to give more credence to what he wants to convey to the common discerning reader who wants to do what is best given the situation.
Anything more I add would take away the charm of your reading the book. This book makes an interesting reading anywhere, anytime.
