After a brief spell, the Dragon King and his wife slithered down to receive Hailibu. They thanked him profusely for having saved their daughter and led Hailibu to the gem storehouse of the palace.

The Dragon King said, “ Feel free to select any gem that captures your attention, anything you like”

“Umm… but…” muttered the hunter.

“Yes, … what is it? Be bold and ask your choice.”

“What I would really like is.. Do not be angry, but I could have that gem that is in your mouth right now?

“The gem in my mouth?”

“Yes”.

“Is that all you want? Are you sure?

“Yes, please, if you may.”

“Very well,” so saying the Dragon King reluctantly spat out the gem and handed it to Hailibu.

Soon Hailibu took leave of them and accompanied by the little white snake, found himself back in the land of humans.

Hailibu nodded, bade goodbye to the snake, popped the gem into his mouth and went into the forest.

From that day on, hunting no longer seemed a tedious task but an amusing pastime for Hailibu. No more did he have to wait in stealth, no more would he have to climb trees, scale cliffs or ensconce himself in scratchy bushes, all he had to do was to listen to the birds and animals and take the steps in the right direction to catch his prey.

One day, while hunting, he caught the birds chattering excitedly among themselves.

“ Come on”, cried one bird to the others.”Let’s hurry and make sure all the others get the message.”

“But are you sure about all this?” cried another.” This means we will all have to start everything all over again… build new nests…” “Of course, I’m sure! When have I ever been wrong? I’m sure there’s going to be a torrent of  rain, the oceans will be flooded, the rivers in full spate and waters will come gushing down the mountains. The whole valley will be under water. There is peril for the people living around here. Believe me!”

Now Hailibu, our hero, is in a fix. What should he do? Should he tell what he had overheard? Wouldn’t that spell doon to him? Or should he keep quite to save himself? Should he really believe in the words of the bird or just wait and see what would happen? Or would it be too late until then? Then he would have to walk around with guilt and reject if everything turned true. Oh! what should he do?

Do you want to know how Hailibu faced the situation? What did he really do? Did he save himself of did he save the village people?

Did he turn out to be a good samariton?

Watch out for the next issue to get your answers.

Keep guessing! Good pondering!
